I never fail to be thrilled by the diversity of the poetry both in form and in subject which occurs at the meetings of Poetry Aloud. Every month seems to throw up something more than just a little bit special. Take March 2011 for instance. I am a regular dog walker on Boxing Day to Felixstowe Ferry, so Stephen 's poem was alive with everything I love about that particular experience. The poem about the Moors Murders also struck a double note with me. I am a child of the 1960's and so a contemporary of the killed and missing child/children. I once attended a football match where A.F.C. Sudbury were playing Mossley, on the outskirts of Manchester. I remarked to the progamme seller how beautiful the scenery was. 'That,' he informed me, 'is Saddleworth Moor. No-one has called that beautiful in over 40 years.' Sobering stuff. It was incredible that Kaaren's poem about the driver should show a thematic link with mine called 'Kicks'. I enjoyed her work as I always do. She writes terrific poetry which becomes magical under the guidance of a tremendous reading voice. Victor has a reading voice of mesmeric individuality too. I do not know the nationality of our final reader, but to write such thoughtful and well written poetry in a second language was another sublime Poetry Aloud moment. It ranks alonside Helen's reading of a poem, I believe originally written in Arabic, some months ago. Unbeknown to us gathered there, we had amongst us an Arabic speaker who then read the poem in her mother-tongue. I stand to be corrected, but was this the first Poetry Aloud meeting where every poem was an original, that is written by its reader? We had one lady reading her late Husband's poetry, but that was original as far as I am concerned. Richard Whiting

Creating magic
Thank you Richard. I love to hear I have a tremendous reading voice, especially after writing 'I wear lipstick so people can hear my poems'. Or maybe we were just lucky because the microphone was working?
You are right it was a good evening and the next one on 27th April should be great with Katie Bonna preceded by us reading each other's poems nicked from the website!
