After The Storm © 08 Barry Gardner
The pages turn in our book of life
Some chapter’s peace, some chapter’s strife
We find that as the years go by
Sometimes black clouds fill up the sky
When things are going well it seems
The storm will break and wreck our dreams
For every free and easy ride
A relentless fight against the tide
Indeed some feel so put upon
They lose the courage to go on
As our way through life we disentangle
Troubles come from every angle
Both personal and financial matters
Conspire to leave our lives in tatters
Then those we’ve trusted let us down
Or the one we love most makes us frown
Beware of tragedy’s lightning speed
And wicked folk beset by greed
There’s ill health, bereavement, family woes
Then whatever else God only knows
You must live on hope throughout the storm
For after it’s spent a rainbow will form
Confront your foes with brave endeavour
And cherish those memories that last forever
Remember too when lost in the wood
Most people are essential good
Pray to your maker if that’s what you do
But never stop believing in you
Don’t ever let your spirits wane
Then one day soon you’ll smile again.
