The air is filled with light
to the horizon
Trees, leafless, stand in sculptural form
Thatched and pantiled cottages
bejewel a gentle landscape
with their colours, pinks and creams
The green is pushing up
through the fields
Spring, already long delayed, about to burst

It has survived so long: This backdrop for the living out
of Suffolk human drama
Gold crocuses and yellow daffodils
Are about to shine
The village church, pub and
school still are there, As smoke emits from
chimney pots, and rooks build their nests
in the nearby rookery

The light in the sky through the clouds, a sign of hope, There is a footpath, a green sign, indicating which way our ancestors trod
less well-traversed now
but laying down for those
who would follow: continuity; instinctively and consciously
the route that is required for survival
After such a prolonged winter a milder day?

After Such A prolonged Winter a Milder Day

The scene is set like the path of years gone by -a melody of hope of life to come.
