Like a Victorian automaton
at a magical, mystical funfair,
the expectant, raised fountain pen lowers;
mechanically etching; gratitude shared.

Another inevitable book launch,
the remorseless production line rolls;
more merchandising, glad-handing; to play
seer, king and sage, the author is enrolled.

Graciousness, thankfulness practiced,
humility, handshaking honed,
smile painted on, surprise dress-rehearsed
at each anecdote and story retold.

Sprung ready for action for the next show town,
clockwork tempered, oiled and rewound.
