Loneliness pours its mantle over me
No future is there without you only misery
I cannot live in the past
In the present too much pain
And tomorrow it will all begin again

Not for me this lonely life
I cannot face another day
I need your love and comfort
And begged you please to stay
My pleas were all in vain
Freedom was yours
And though it brought much pain
You closed the door and left me
To cry and cry again

It’s cold up here on this parapet
The water far down below
They say before you reach it
No pain will you know

Please do not think badly of me
If now and then you do
I only lived to love you
Knowing you could not be true

A voice above the parapet
Please don’t do it friend
There is more to life so forget
Do not make this the end

Think of all the good things
That life can offer you
Reflect on day to day
And look at life anew

The voice that came
I know not from where
Gave me new hope
And raised me from despair
