My brother was known for his scruffy clothes
and scuffed shoes, to our father’s annoyance,
until we came into Grandpa’s things, including
his horse-hair brushes: craftsmen’s tools.

we looked through on the Wednesday visits -
all the family stories. Now he’s almost dapper,
singing as he buffs with Mum’s old tights.
And Sunday mornings go much better.
