Dissatisfaction

Dissatisfaction © 08 Fraser Harrison

Give me melons, juicy
sweet and ripe,
and I ache for apples;
apples, and I dream of olives,
small as nipples,
black and piquant.

Jazz, I crave
Shostakovich;
sonnet, I want epic;
whisky, I thirst
for wine; abroad
I pine after Blighty.

Working, I slave
to change my job;
waking, I long
for another life;
dying I’ll die
for a different death.
