The footpath from Manlicken to Alpiglen, termed Romantiweg
Beneath the high peaks of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau
With Grindlewald laying in the valley below
Takes you by friendly cows with their cowbells sounding
Through the heather, past marmots whistling,
across pine woods and many alpine flowers including gentians
Across a gorge to the foot of the Eiger
Its huge bulk looming heavenwards as a pyramid in shade
The sun temporarily shone at the top of the peak as
We walked across the middle of the base
Blazing light from a blinding sun prompting thoughts of esoteric religion
And what the rosicrucians might make of this mystic conjunction
Of light streaming from heaven to earthwards
Solar enlightenment of those made small on the earth
The all seeing eye, the wisdom of the Creator
The vast impregnable might expressed
By the vertical mountain face
Linking all on earth with the
sky
