Food. Why? Copyright © Colin Whyles 2012
Why make a food that you can't eat?
Why make it taste as good as cheese?
Why pack it with a punch that makes
The mother and father of all headaches?
Why make a drink that, when it's drunk,
Makes you think your brain has shrunk?
Why make it so that it makes you think
You are god's gift to everything?
Why make chocolate taste so good
It makes you eat more than you should,
Until, although fit to explode,
You won't admit chocolate overload?
Why make food that dissolves your teeth?
Who thought to eat sugar, so, so sweet?
The hardest thing your body has
Dissolved on contact; so, so bad.
Why make food that makes us so fat
We can't see our own feet; what's the point of that?
Why take your plate and pile it up
When your stomach is no larger than a tea cup?
Why not make food nourishing and good?
Perhaps you wouldn't eat it; you know that you should.
Perhaps we're designed, you might think this unkind,
To eat ourselves to death; I can't say I mind.
