Dark spears of trees
Curve around the sky
As the last of the light
Casts a long beam
Towards me
Beckoning me on
Over the tyre compacted ice
Between the trees
And the crisp banks of snow
To the bend in the road
With that last orange gleam
Behind the three distant trees
Posted across my path
Like fiery sentinels
The sky hurtles down
To the focal point
Where it meets the road
And the light
Repeats on the ice
Reaching out to me
In a long orange ribbon of hope
Drawing me on out of my darkness
To something I shall never know
This is a road I shall never take
A corner I shall never turn

Tomorrow never comes
