Written in Suffolk Dialect, probably as our two ghosts would have spoken, this story is set to verse as a ‘Conversation Piece’

Dew yew ‘member that day, us on this seat,
When they tew young davils, from up tha street,
Collared thowd Carrier’s Dickie an cart,
An tried thar damndest far thowd gal ta start?
Unshackled thowd cart an shuved it wi ease,
Tiome owd booey wor hevin his bread an cheese?
They booeys daint know us wor sitting heare
Or wouln’t ha bin as cloos, hev no fear!!
Them opened Church gate, shuved thowd cart inside,
Thowt them wor takin Thowd gal for a ride!
No Davil-a-bit ! Thart wornt so ta be!
They shuved thowd shalves threw tha gate dew ya see?
Coupled thowd cart tew tha Dickie agin,
Dickie outside an thowd cart wuthin.
Them took tharselves orf, an hid hind a tree,
Hung about far a tiome, far the signs o’ he
My wud, when thowd Carrier seed what thard dun,
Wuds flew lioke hot sparks, when hittin tha sun!!
Corse they lads took orf, couln’t see they for dust,
An left poor owd Carrier his cart tew untruss.
Us tew could a helped thow booey, dew ya see?
But reckon hid bin in a wus state than we!!
So us sat, and us watched, bud all he said,
What hid dew ta they davils, well, thas best left unsaid!
