Hundreds of rooks Copyright © Victor Weston 2010

rise up together
effortlessly from their rookery in Reydon
From the high tops of the outstretched tree twigs
They take off
soaring into the air
where they wheel, and circle round, clockwise and counter clockwise
Expertly and with familiarity
using the air currents
Like a vortex
Evidently enjoying the "whoosh" Of their experience

Gradually dispersing, in ones or twos flying out
in lines to differing predetermined directions
where various awaiting cornfields lie
The harvest has been taken
The fields are left rich for the picking
with fallen grain

The collective identity of the "Parliament"
Engenders every bird with knowingness, Understanding and wellbeing

Both individual bird and rook as a part of the whole
continue to
Survive
as nature intended

Hundreds of Rooks

Sounds good being a rook -quite expressive by someone who knows his rooks?

"differing predetermined directions"- i wonder if rooks really do this?

as nature intended" yes ! i like that
