You lie above sleep all night,
Like a person adrift on the sea,
Dazzled by starlight,
Yet unable to slip a shoulder
Underneath and sink down
To that subterranean world
Where school and work,
Family and ambition,
All our love and all our travail,
Come to meet us in disguise;
Where nightly we star
In our own swash-buckling movie.
