Mini tornado’s herd the fallen leaves
Slithering on the hard surface of the road
Playing games
In clearly defined groups

Like flocks of birds coming in to roost
They swirl and twist as if each
has a mind of its own,
while clearly still part of the whole

Occasionally one or more will get lost
And, separated from the pack
Will lie panting in the shelter
of a wheel or kerb stone

Until the next gust, lifts it, gives it a twist
And returns it to the never ending game
Never ending
Until the wind drops
