May Flowers © 2008 Fraser Harrison

Dandelion and daisy,
buttercup and bugle,
clover and campion,
red nettle, white nettle,
vetch, violet, speedwell
and half a dozen more,
nameless without the book,
flowering in merry May
under a bride-fresh
froth of cow parsley –
all these will be long,
long since dead,
withered to the root,
before you return
to walk this lane
with me.
