Yesterday we woke to fog
the sky a white canvas waiting
for its picture of a day.
Drizzle and mist till tea-time though
when the sun staggered off
tail between its legs. But by then
the moon had risen full, full to the point
of adults not just children pointing up
and saying Oh
isn’t that just like a Jacquie Lawson e-card and
O
the moon said brightly back
O
look at all those people going home then
O
look at all those people going out and
O
it’s McMillan at the Apex that they’re heading to
O
what fun, and it was. Then later, softly
O
it’s time for home again and
O
valtine.
