The national grid in England
Is built to carry power
Across our land on pylons
To serve us by the hour

The pylons that we build
Are tall and straight and Phallic
And carry all the power
In wires long metallic

In France they know that power
Is really woman's gift
And so design their pylons
To honour woman's thrift

The pylons here in England
Look upward for effect
In France with legs divided
here like a man erect
