Recipe Song

Recipe Song Copyright © Richard Whiting 2010

You are what you eat.
Sometimes I’m moody, so throw in some crab,
Sometimes I’m cold, so a dash of ice-cream;
My jokes are stale, so stir in some cheese;
Sometimes I’m bitter, so add a pinch of salt.
Crab, ice-cream, cheese and salt;
A recipe to make people sick!
Looking across the table into your eyes,
Feeling the warmth of your hand;
Food maintains the body,
Love sustains the soul.
And…
If music be the food of love
Don’t listen to me sing.

Recipe Song

People who were at Poetry Aloud this month will not remember this poem. Richard offered it as a substitute for the poems he read that he did not wish to submit because he will be entering them into competitions.
