Encountering a piece of verse or prose
The shape and music of the line enfold
And often though the words and rhymes are bold
Are come amidst a line of purple pose
throws you off the line of understanding
Deflects you from the mind behind the phrase
From horizons clarity the haze
of general comprehension roundly clings
But words are blind and dumb, on the page
they rot in helplessness 'til it is opened
by one who is determined to befriend
them give them warmth, release them from their cage
For understand, their blindness makes us free
It's necessary so we can see
