Things Ain't So Blue Or Are They? Copyright © 2008 Barry Gardner

The roof's sprung a leak
And there's a hole in the stair
And a mouse in the kitchen
But the landlord don't care
'Cos we owe two months rent
Now a letter's been sent
But I've still got you
Things ain't so blue

I've just been laid off
And the welfare ain't much
Our friends have disowned us
We're in need of a crutch
There's a load of new bills
To add to our ills
But I've still got you
Things ain't so blue

Now the telly's gone wrong
And we can't afford another
To make matters worse
We're expecting your mother
Who said yesterday
She'd be coming to stay
But I've still got you
Things ain't so blue

My bike's just been nicked
And the car's broken down
So now we've got no way
To get into town
Then the school starts complaining
The kids ain't behaving
But I've still got you
Things ain't so blue

Our clothes have gone threadbare
And we all need new shoes
The neighbours don't like us
They just call us bad news
We'll soon be so poor
Wolves wont come near our door
But I've still got you
Things ain't so blue

Now the foods running out
And we need a few bob
I'm doing my best
To find a new job
Still the future looks bleak
They say maybe next week
But I've still got you
Things ain't so blue

The dog's gone left home
Thinks it's easier to forage
He didn't get no meat
And he wouldn't eat porridge
Sees the great outdoors giving
A better standard of living
But I've still got you
Things ain't so blue

Now we've only just heard
There'll be one more soon
Another mouth at the table
Expected next June
Don't know how we can cope
We'll be living on hope
But I've still got you
Things ain't so blue

We look tired and old
And the kids both look sickly
We could do with our ship
To come in and quickly
With more laughter less tears
For our future years
But I've still got you
Things ain't so blue

(pause)

But what's this I hear
You're telling me now?
You've decided to leave me?
YOU ROTTEN OLD COW!
