It is not known
there remains undisclosed
at Walsingham a unicorn
where a fair Virgin did appear
and still is to be found there
on what is now seen as holy ground

he fled thence over the packhorse bridge
near the Knight’s Gate
where miraculous escapes occur
and rested his head on
Our Lady’s lap for solace
then fell asleep without demur

he rests where the snowdrops flower
camouflaged in Our Lady’s bower
until that very hour
when The Lord Christ will appear
Now no palisade fences Him in
he is free to roam at whim

He stays to greet
those He seeks to meet
who run in flight
from the rabid dogs that bite
his horn ennobling the pilgrim
with heavenly light and might

NB 2011 will be the 900th anniversary of the Vision Richeldis had at Walsingham
