Waves Copyright © Colin Whyles 2011
(A respectful response to Maggies Hambling's remarkable series of paintings of Suffolk waves)
(This is a reworking of a poem first read in February 2011 which you can read here).
With eyes that look but never listen
What thrall does my broken body visit?
Listen to my boiled blood curdling
Listen! Listen! Stop your scrawling
You paint my anger, paint my screams,
you never paint my sleep or dreams.
Listen to my boiled blood curdling
Listen! Listen! Stop your scrawling
My still, stored passion won't be ignored
when shattered, poured on trembling shores.
Listen to my boiled blood curdling
Listen! Listen! Stop your scrawling
A carcass splattered on your canvas sucked into a swirling rush
squalls of pain dissolve to nothing on your deaf and oily brush?
Listen to my boiled blood curdling
Listen! Listen! Stop your scrawling
