My favourite poets
Are those who
Write from the heart;
Or the shattered fragments
Of their hearts;
Who take the
Torn remnants
Of their souls
To weave a tapestry.

Imagine this;
In a country where
Rottweilers, dachshund, the spitz
Are tantamount to treason;
You walk out into
The Market square
And read your poetry
Condemning the war,
The senseless slaughter;
Words sharing sympathy
With the mothers
Of both sides.

What would be worse-

The vitriol and hatred,
The violence and humiliation

Or to have written
Nothing at all?
